Glass

24 x 12 x 16 inches | 60 x 30 x 40 cm

Oki Izumi’s works are primarily crafted from industrial glass panes, a material with dual qualities of transparency and reflection. This duality encourages viewers to engage in an observation that transcends mere retinal perception, opening up a personal time-space that invites introspection. The ever-changing light conditions that animate the glass works provide a constant incentive for interaction with the viewer's variable and diverse experiences and knowledge.

In the artist's hands, a cold, industrial material paradoxically invites meditation. This meditative quality is particularly intense in her large installations, which offer the spectator an experience that is not simply visual. The reflections from the glass evoke a personal, introspective journey, encouraging deep contemplation.
