Wang Yigang's work prominently features intense colors and dynamic gestures driven by deep impulses, which closely accompanies the materials. His artistic journey can be divided into distinct periods. Initially, his works were more figurative with affinities to Cubism and Futurism. The second period of Wang's work, heavily influenced by real life, is best characterized as Pop Art. During this time, Wang was highly attuned to elements such as posters, advertisements, and political themes, leading to a prolific production of collage paintings. Since 2000, he has rediscovered and incorporated elements of traditional Chinese culture, painting a series of works related to Chinese dyeing techniques. The subsequent period, leading up to his most recent works, is purely conceptual and abstract.
Wang paints with his entire body, allowing his works to develop organically during the painting process. He layers pigments, continually destroying and revising his work until he deems it complete. In recent years, his brushstrokes have become more colorful and richer, reflecting a full liberation of his creative spirit.
